New Hampshire native Mary Cable grew up in a family of artists. From an early age, she was encouraged to express herself in drawing and painting, with endless hours of painting instruction from a local artist during her teen years. Mary majored in Art education at Plymouth State College with a focus on pottery. After she married her college sweetheart, she took additional classes at the Currier Institute of Art. After a long hiatus, a full career in antique furniture restoration, family, 4 kids and now grandchildren, she has returned to her roots in fine art.

I choose oil as my medium, in the alla prima technique.  I prefer it to other paint because it is a stable medium in which the colors remain true. My inspiration is nature -mostly landscapes at this time. I love the way light plays on tree branches and leaves so I try to capture it in my work.
